How do I get a rebate from Medicare for Psychological Therapy?
You must obtain a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP. Currently, ten sessions per year are provided by Medicare. The minimum rebate for session is $96.65. This rebate increases, depending upon the Medicare threshold for the client.
How do I get a Medicare rebate for Assessments?
Medicare do not provide rebates for psychological assessments. The actual assessment costs do not attract a rebate through Medicare but may be claimable via private health insurance. Currently, a specific referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician, can attract 4 sessions for assessment to assist with diagnostic formulation and contribution to a treatment and management plan for complex neurodevelopment disorders (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder) or eligible disability services.
Do you claim the Medicare rebate?
Payment is taken via Halaxy. The Medicare rebate is forwarded onto Medicare on your behalf, with a receipt emailed to you. The Medicare rebate is placed into the account you have linked with Medicare.
What if I need to Cancel or reschedule an appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact the practice as soon as possible.
Cancellation and No Show fees are charged according to guidelines set by Australian Psychological Society (APS) and apply as follows:
  • Cancellation of an appointment given with less than 48 hours notice of the appointment: 100% of the session fee applies
  • Missed appointments (no show within 20 minutes of the booked appointment time): 100% of the session fee applies
Cancellation and missed appointments fees are charged as this time has been set aside and cannot be filled at short notice. These fees are not covered by Medicare and are payable by the client. Please note if you have an appointment on a Monday, the 48 hour notice period will be the previous Thursday (weekends are not included). If no contact has been made with the practice within 3 months of the last session, the client will be discharged to the GP.
